Obama’s Latest Endorsement - al Qaida. An Obama-Bin Laden ticket?
(Washington, D.C., Right Commentary): Abu Yahya al-Libi (al-Libi) has called for President Bush and the Republicans to be “humilated,” in the upcomming US election, according to news reports and messages at al Qaida sympathetic websites and bulletin boards. This marks another tactic endorsement of the Obama campaign by another radical organization. While I realize it may be unfair to say that Obama is supported by terrorists, or that Obama supports terrorism (which is not something I believe), I do find it quite disturbing that Sen. Obama’s campaign has been explicitly and/or tacticly supported by Hamas, Hezbollah, radical elements in Palestine, and now, it would appear al Qaida.
Perhaps Rev. Wright and “Professor” Ayers were mistakes - or casual accquiantences. En arguendo, I’ll take Obama at his word when he says to the American people that those contacts are not important to him, don’t inform policy, and are not part of his campaign. And I realize you can’t control who will stand up for you and say “Yes, he’s a good guy for us.” But when the three most dangerous terrorist organizations, say, “Hey we like this guy Obama,” I am baffled by the fact that Americans don’t go, “now, why is that? exactly?”
I have some unique experience with al-Libi as he was a detainee at the US airbase in Bagram, Afghanistan who escaped in 2006. I was a bit surprised to hear it was him - since I had figured he had long since vanished into the ether of al Qaida’s underworld. Al Libi, called for God’s wrath to be brought against Bush equating him with past tyrants in history.
The remarks were the first comments from a leading al Qaida figure referring, albeit indirectly, to the U.S. elections. Muslim clerics often end sermons by calling on God to guide and support Muslims and help defeat their enemies.
Colleagues of mine in the Pentagon and in the Intelligence community have wondered if Bin Laden himself will make an address before the election the way he did in 2004. ABC News and others are reporting that senior US officials within the Pentagon and Intelligence Community have stated that they expect a message before the election.
I am not saying that Obama somehow would coddle terrorists. I do not believe the rhetoric of many of my colleagues who claim he is a terrorist sympathesizer, or that he’s a muslim, or that he is secretly going to win the election and then turn over the White House to our enemies. I don’t buy it. However, I would ask readers - does it at all bother you that our enemies all seem to think he’d be a swell President?
