Last election, we had threats from dozens of celebrities who warned they’d move out of the country if George W. Bush were elected. You can guess how many stayed behind. Now Susan Sarandon threatens–again–that she’ll become an expatriate, this time if Obama isn’t elected.

Who cares? Let them leave. Let them all leave the United States if they don’t want to be here.

Imagine how much brighter U.S. metropolitan skies would be if these serial polluters left the country, taking their lavish, jet-setting lifestyles with them. The paparazzi would suffer, but traffic congestion would improve.

If Hollywood’s highest-paid actors and actresses left the country, it might not affect the volume of work they receive in the States, but it might also cause production companies to choose other talented local actors. Who knows, movie budgets might decrease and give smaller production companies a shot at the limelight.

McMansions formerly owned by celebrity expatriates could be turned into mixed-use housing, or simply razed and reforested/replanted, especially along once-pristine coastlines.

Residents can take back Robertson Blvd., Sunset Blvd., and Wilshire Blvd., free to shop without fear of being run over by an overzealous paparazzo. You might even be able to get an outside table at The Ivy.

Life would improve in hundreds of ways if celebrities that threaten to leave the country actually would. Liberals love to complain about the shortcomings of a country while simultaneously enjoying its freedoms and benefits. Complain all you want, that’s your right, but don’t threaten to leave unless you actually plan to do so. Make your words count with actions. Anything less is just noise.
