Rule, Britannia! - Conservatives Sweep in UK
Washington, D.C. (Rightcommentary.com): This event, which took the Labour Party apparently by surprise last Friday, has been a long time coming. While in this country, conservatism has been under fire - after almost more than a decade of “Liberal Socialism” in the United Kingdom - they’ve had enough. In 2007 - the conservative parties began to take their country back. Having met with conservative members of Parliament and “Shadow Secretaries” of the United Kingdom from 2006 until I left government in late 2007 - all of us knew this day was coming and that the end of the Labour Party’s rule was close at hand.
Gordon Brown today acknowledged a “bad night” for Labour after the party’s national share of the vote plummeted to 24% - its lowest level since the 1960s – in his first electoral test as prime minister.
… it’s lowest level since the 1960’s.
With about two thirds of the results declared, the Conservatives had 44% of the national share of the vote – enough to give David Cameron (Conseravtive Party leader - and a great person I might add - pictured) a landslide majority if it were replicated in a general election.
The Liberal Democrats, on 25% of the vote, pushed Labour into third place for only the second time in their history.
The Conservative result was four percentage points higher than in the 2007 local elections. According to the BBC, the 4% increase applied in the north of England as well as the south.
The extent of the Conservative gains would put the party on course for a majority of 138 if they were replicated in a general election, although electoral experts insist this is never an exact guide to what will happen in future.
David Cameron told the BBC: “This is a very big moment for the Conservative party, but I don’t think anyone would think that we would deserve to win an election on the back of a failing government. I want us to prove to people that we can make the changes that they want to see.”
Good luck fellow conservatives - you may fair far better than your cousins in the United States!
