Vanguard of the New American Conservatism.

Time Magazine should be ashamed of itself.

Washington, D.C. (Rightcommentary.com) One of the defining features of the Washington, D.C. landscape is the Iwo Jima memorial. The sight of US soldiers raising Old Glory on that mountain top, having conquered the Japanese on the island of Iwo Jima, is one of the enduring symbols of America.

Well - Time magazine decided to exploit that memory to push its brand of what could only be described as “global warming” pandering. (This week’s cover pictured).

This blog is very honest and forthright in its leanings - its political slant - its bias. I have no doubt Time magazine considers itself a fair, honest, and unbiased news source. How can it claim such given a cover like that? Taking the memory of soldiers who lost their lives - and a symbol that rallied a nation to push on against the Japanese Empire in WWII - to push its global warming agenda.

The battle was fought between the United States and the Japanese Empire in February and March 1945 during the Pacific Campaign of World War II. Ground fighting on the island took place over approximately 35 days, lasting from the landings of February 19 to a final Japanese charge the morning of March 26, 1945. The U.S. invasion force was charged with the mission of capturing the airfields on Iwo Jima.

The battle was marked by some of the fiercest fighting of the campaign. The Imperial Japanese Army positions on the island were heavily fortified, with vast bunkers, hidden artillery, and 18 kilometers (11 mi) of tunnels. The battle was the first American attack on the Japanese Home Islands and the Imperial soldiers defended their positions tenaciously. Of the 21,000 Japanese soldiers present at the beginning of the battle, over 20,000 were killed and only 216 taken prisoner.

Joe Rosenthal photographed five Marines: Ira Hayes, Mike Strank, Franklin Sousley, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, and a U.S. Navy corpsman, John Bradley, raising the U.S. flag atop the 166 meter (546 ft) Mount Suribachi. The photograph records what was actually the second flag-raising on the mountain, which took place on the fifth day of the 35-day battle. The picture became the iconic image of the battle and may be the most reproduced photograph of all time.

That’s what Iwo Jima is about. Not some nonsense about a scientifically dubious theory about climate change.

Time Magazine - add this cover to your list of shame - making men like the Ayatolla, Hitler, and Stalin, “Man of the Year,” and appropriating one of the most endearing symbols of the American soldier - second to none - for your own political ends.

Shame on you Time Magazine.

What’s next? The carbon footprint from the emissions of the flame for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?
