NEWSFLASH: Bush/Cheney resign from office - Bush Appoints Sen. Clinton as Vice President
Washington, D.C. (Right Commentary) - We interrupt this programming to bring you an important emergency message… We have learned tonight that President Bush, bowing to pressure from critics in Congress and the International community, will resign - effective tomorrow morning at 8AM, EDT. Further, Vice President Richard Cheney will also leave office as well, citing family and health issues, leaving open the positions of President and Vice President.
“You all think you can run this country better than me - we’ll you go ahead and try it. The big question is this - you think you democrats can fight Osama? Heck - you guys can’t even figure out what to do about Hillary and Obama!” Bush said.
“I talked about it with the President, and I’ve decided, I just can’t take it. I’m going to go back to Haliburton. You all can just kiss my *@#,” Cheney said.
In a stunning move, President Bush appointed Sen. Hillary Clinton to be Vice-President of the United States - effective April 30th.
“I have, as my final act as President, solved the Democrat’s problem in choosing a nominee. We flipped a coin - five times in fact -and Hillary won three out of five. So we picked her. I urge the Senate to immediately consider my nomination so I can retire and get the heck back to Texas,” the President said.
According to the provisions of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, Hillary Clinton will could become the 44th President of the United States should the Senate ratify her nomination as Vice President. This would make her the second President in history to attain the office through appointments.
“Look, why should I even waste my time being President. According to my approval ratings you all hate me. Heck, you’re all just happy when according to you guys in the Press I don’t act like a total boob,” Bush said.
Stunned by this move, many Democrats were rushed to GW hospital after they had a stroke and fell over in a state of shock. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), fell down a flight of stairs - knocking over 30 people to the ground, when staffers told him the news. Many other Democratic members of Congress literally fell to the floors of the House and Senate in pure and utter amazement - convinced that in fact this must be a sign of the end of the world. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) said, “this is his final attack on us - he’s literally trying to shock and awe us to death.” Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) said, “this weapon of mass confusion will not deter us in finding out the truth about Haliburton and Iraq.”
When asked for comment, Sen. Obama was unable to form a reply - frozen in amazement. Members of the Obama staff were quick to comment, stating, “This was what Sen. Clinton envisioned all along - she’s stealing the White House from the voters. She lost at the ballot box and this is a Hail Mary end run.”
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s hot-line was overwhelmed by callers asking if any new bright stars had appeared in the sky recently. Similarly, the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Agency’s telephone lines went down for a brief period tonight - when hundreds of callers in the DC area all attempted to phone into the agency’s hot line asking, “has hell frozen over?”
APRIL FOOLS!
BTW - a couple of things (in seriousness):
- The 25th Amendment to the Constitution does allow for someone who was not elected to national office to become President.
- President Gerald Ford became the 38th President of the United States when Richard Nixon resigned.
- President Ford has been the only President of the United States never to have been elected to the office of President or Vice President.
- Under extraordinary circumstances, the President of the United States, can be forcibly removed from office without impeachment. The 25th Amendment provides for a process whereby the cabinet can, by unanimous consent, remove the President from office.
- If this were an actual emergency, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, would become the 44th President of the United States, if both the President and the Vice President are unable to discharge their duties. The legal right of Presidential succession is controlled by the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. Many constitutional scholars have argued that this law is probably unconstitutional as there is no provision in the Constitution for the Congress to make laws governing the succession to the Presidency and the Congress and the Executive Branch are co-equal branches of government.
